First up, let's get one thing straight. I don't wear make up everyday, who wants to anyway? I love going nude, there is no feeling like it! But for the days where I need to take myself from a solid 4 to a miraculous 8 as well as feel better in myself, this is what I do. It takes me no longer than 25 minutes from skincare to lipstick, providing there have been no eye liner 'mishaps' along the way! I hope you enjoy!
Skincare. It would be fair to say that I would be pretty lost without my skincare, you know those mornings where you wake up more tired than you went to sleep with baggy eyes and dehydrated skin? Yep! I can always rely on my Bobbi Brown skincare to revive my skin in under 10 seconds. Here is a full run down of what I use every day before make up.
I do a thorough cleanse with this and this at night, so I don’t feel the need to cleanse again in the morning, instead I go straight for the glorious Bobbi Brown Extra Treatment Lotion to refresh and prep for the next steps, then my fave Extra Repair Eye Cream, followed by the Extra Moisture Cream and the incredible By Terry Lip Balm to sort out my lips.
Occasionally I will use the Bobbi Brown Wrinkle Remedy (when I remember I’m 31 and prevention is better than cure, right!), Extra Repair Serum if my skin is feeling a bit tight and needs an extra drink of moisture, lastly the love of my life Bobbi Brown Extra Illuminating Balm for the ultimate dewy glow - those who know, know.
Next, on to make up!
For my base, I switch between different foundations depending how I’m feeling. You might have guessed from the skincare that I love glow, matte is not my friend, so my all time favourites are; Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick because its quick, simple and gives smooth customisable coverage. If I want more glow I adore the Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation, it's lightweight yet offers medium coverage and makes your skin look fresh and polished. If I know I have an extra long day ahead of me and can’t risk my face falling off by 3pm, I will opt for Estee Lauder Double Wear - I mix it with some of the Illuminating Balm to make it appear fresher. Concealer! For my under eyes I love anything creamy and not too drying, I have got through countless tubes of the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. For any stubborn blemishes, I love the Becca Ultimate Concealer.
Powder! I don’t use powder! I am definitely a powder phobe (blame my teenage years of piling the stuff on resulting in looking like a shrivelled dry prune) but for mid way through the day touch ups - I reach for the Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Illuminating Powder, it's the only powder I’ll use mainly because it doesn’t look too ‘powdered’ on the skin, plus it cleverly hydrates the skin throughout the day.
Bronzer, who doesn’t love a bit of bronzer? I switch between two. Current obsession is Nars Laguna for just the right amount of warmth without being tangoed. My second go-to is Bobbi Brown Golden Light Bronzing Powder.
Blush. GIVE ME ALL THE BLUSH! Did you know I love blush?! See (below) how my face comes to life with it? THAT’S why! As you’d expect, I have a few on rotation but my absolute loves are Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Pale Pink for that ‘you look nice today’ even when I feel half asleep - thing. For more of a long wearing powder option, I’m into the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta.
Highlighter. Not really fussed by highlighter, i'd rather have a natural glow on my skin than anything too artificial but if I’m feeling it, i grab the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop because it's outta this world stunning.
Ok, onto eyes. This is probably the thing that I change the most. I start with a clean base first, using Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion, followed by a neutral cream shadow stick - either Truffle, Golden Pink or Golden Bronze by Bobbi Brown. Then i'll sweep some bronzer through the crease to give soft definition. Followed by a good swipe of liner! Liner takes my eyes from pretty to poppin’ (see below). Until the day I die, I will use Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Black Ink, if I fancy a change I will opt for Denim Ink or Espresso Ink. I usually keep the liner winged and sleek because its easy to create and suits my eye shape. Mascara is my least favourite thing to do, anyone else find it tedious? Thankfully, the Estee Lauder Sumptuous helps make it less tedious!
Brows. Eyebrows can either make or break a look right? I try to keep them defined and non heavy but I know how easy it is to go overboard. The easiest product in the world for brows is Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Brow Pencil, just fill in the gaps, groom and go.
Lips, that means we are at the end! YAY! Listen, we all know I love a nude lip. Give me a pinky nude any day of the week, I practically eat them I get through them so quickly. Current faves are - MAC 'Medium Rare' (below), Lipstick Queen ‘The Truth’ , MAC 'Faux', and if I could just carry one lipstick with me for the rest of my life it would be Bobbi Brown Blondie Pink because it always looks good no matter what. I skip lip liner cos…thats just unnecessary when a girls gotta get out the door!
I'll quickly blowdry my hair and then ta-da! Done.
Til next time, Sophy x
